PROFESSIONAL MASTER OF ENGINEERING (PME) AND MASTER OF ENGINEERING (ME) IN OFFSHORE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT (OTM)
Oil and Gas resources in the Southeast Asian region have been explored for more than few decades, particularly after the production slump of oil and gas in the US in the early 1970’s. Since then the region has become one of the most productive oil and gas areas in the world. More than three decades, the rapid development of oil and gas industry is not accompanied with the development of skilled human resources in the region. The availability of skilled manpower becomes critical recently due to the tremendously high activities in exploration and production of oil and gas around the world, in order to meet the demand of increasing world energy after China becoming ‘world factory’ country.
The program of this first kind of regional post-graduate study in Offshore Technology and Management is designed to combine the application-oriented course works, field studies and internships, by which graduates are expected to be equipped with high skills and knowledge-and-practice-readiness to mitigate the shortages of skilled manpower in the upstream sector of oil and gas industry (E&P). As an industrial application-oriented program, OTM with its unique characteristics offers flexible study structure which allows students to build their own area of specialization besides those recommended areas. With the available teaching expertise; library and laboratory facilities; multitude offered courses from schools; skilled and professional faculty members and staffs; strong collaborations with overseas partner universities in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America; and strongly supported by oil and gas industries, OTM post-graduate program has become one of the most suitable post-graduate study for engineers and young managers to pursue higher professional careers in oil and gas industry and government bodies as well.
Government bodies and Industry supports
OTM has received overwhelming supports from Government bodies and oil and gas industry to launch a new postgraduate study in Offshore Technology and Management, which was historically, marked with the opening ceremony on the OTM Day 31st August 2006. The ceremony was officially opened by the AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust, and preceded with the first OTM Industry Advisory Board meeting to provide the guidelines of teaching and research to meet the industry requirements. The meeting, attended mostly by members or representatives of OTM Industry Advisory Board, was chaired by Dr. Songpope Polacahan, Deputy Director General on behalf of Mr. Krairit Nikulha, Director General of Department of Mineral Fuels, Royal Thai Government. In this historical occasion, the OTM Day was closed with the presentation of Bond Scholarships and an internship scholarship by sponsoring companies and ITC – the Netherlands; and generous Grants either a Software package by Schlumberger S.A and Fund by Bechtel International, Inc.

OTM Program Officer
The course structure is arranged into two semesters for course works and a three-month internship for Professional Master of Engineering students. While for regular master candidate students, the courses works should be accomplished in two semesters. One subject with two credits should be taken during the three-month inter-semester. Finally, the remaining two semesters are for conducting research, writing and thesis examination.
Lectures are conducted in the class rooms and are enhanced at sites during field studies, which ois minimum once for each semester. To better equip the students with the latest development in oil and gas industry, experts and specialists are invited to be speakers in AIT Professional semira Series, which is also held once for each semester.
